All Studio-be classes and workshops are taught by Valerie Speidel.
Studio-be support teachers are:
Alisen Stewart-Milne, Bridget Donald, Corinne Skrobot, Grant Richards, Luci Yamamoto.
Studio-be classes are taught by Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers, whose qualification to teach are assessed and granted by the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada / Association canadienne de yoga Iyengar (IYAC/ACYI). Certification in the Iyengar Method indicates professional training and a high level of expertise in the safe and effective teaching of yoga. Very few if any other yoga methods have training programs of the Iyengar scope and depth, and its rigorous assessment process. Each Certified Iyengar yoga teacher holds the Iyengar Yoga Teacher Certification Mark.
Iyengar Yoga Teacher Certification Mark
The Iyengar Yoga Teacher Certification Mark (world-wide patent), is granted to Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers by RIMYI. Holding this mark indicates an instructor's authorization to teach authentic Iyengar yoga.
Founder of Studio-be, Valerie has practiced yoga since her teens, focusing on the study of Iyengar yoga since 1995, and has taught since 1998. She travels regularly to learn directly from the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India, most recently in 2015. She has studied with Gioia Irwin, Ingelise Nherlan and Louie Ettling. She currently attends intensives with Faeq Biria, and with other senior-level Iyengar yoga teachers. Her teaching is informed by experience as an RN, by two decades as a freelance graphic designer of books, and meditation practice. She encourages each student to reach steadily for balance, intelligent movement, and maturity through the practice of yoga, and is committed to helping students progress in a nurturing learning environment. Her classes are direct, engaging, and enjoyable. She currently teaches at Studio-be in Vancouver, and at the Galiano Island South Hall.
